Pets must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit pet microchip. This is crucial for identification. There are few countries that does not require microchipping but in the UAE, traveling out, you will not be released with a veterinary export certificate without your pet's microchip.
Implantation of microchip MUST always be completed before a rabies vaccination is given to ensure that the correct pet is linked to its vaccination records.
It is recommended that microchip implantation date should be reflected in the vaccination book. If implantation date is not specified, it is best to get a confirmation from the veterinarian who last scanned the pet prior to giving the vaccination.
For Dogs
All vaccinations must be up-to-date on their vaccination records. Rabies vaccinations typically administered at least 12 weeks old and at least 21 to 30 days before travel. Additional vaccinations may be required depending on the destination.

A government/official veterinarian from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment must issue an official health certificate within a specified time frame before travel, usually 7 to 10 days. This certifies that your pet is fit for travel and free from contagious diseases. Though the UAE Export Veterinary Health Certificate is valid for 30 days, there are some countries that require them to be issued closer to travel date or with a specific timeline.
Some countries require an import permit issued by their respective authorities. Ensure to check the specific requirements of the destination country.
Depending on the destination, pets may need to undergo quarantine upon arrival. The length and conditions of quarantine can vary.
Proof of treatment for endo and ecto parasites may be required. This is often administered shortly before travel. A specific active ingredient may also be required by some countries. A specific timeline for the administration prior to departure or arrival may also be specified by some importing countries which must be adhered to avoid any complications and delays upon pet's arrival.
Pets must be transported in an IATA-approved travel crate that is well-ventilated, secure, and comfortable. All airlines require this and if they see pet is not in an approved crate, there will be a tendency that airline will reject the pet's crate delaying the flight, or worst, cancel them. Travel crates depends on the size and type of the pet. It can travel with a plastic crate, a customized wooden crate or a soft carrier - depending on how and where they travel.
Each destination country has specific regulations regarding pet importation. Always ensure compliance with all local requirements and documentation. Some countries also have country-specific certificates or forms which is required for arrival. Some may require endorsements from the official government from the country of origin.
